Shoebox Swap – Saturday, August 21, 2010

In case you haven't heard of a shoebox swap, it is a swap that you attend where you bring a completed card sample and all of the precut cardstock, stamps, ink pads and other accessories needed so everyone in attendance can make a sample of your card.  We set up our supplies at stations and everyone than goes around the room and makes a sample of each of the cards to take home.  It is easy to prepare for and a lot of fun to do since everyone can relax, chat and enjoy each other's company while stamping.  It is wonderful girls' time out!

This is a fun swap to create a lot of cards in a short time but only have to come up with one great idea of your own! Prior to the day, you will need to create a card and bring all the supplies needed for each participant to create the card. The number all depends on how many people we get to sign up. I will let you know ahead of time. These cards should not take more than 10-15 minutes to complete. I definitely do not want to discourage challenging cards or cards showcasing “new” techniques. However, if your card is intricate and fancy you may want to pre-stamp or pre-assemble some items for the other stampers. You will need to make a completed sample of your card so everyone can see what the card is supposed to look like. Then each person will be able to complete your card and take home a variety of cards.

• This is a full card swap. Cards should have a minimum of two layers and one embellishment. You need to supply all materials needed for your card. That means cardstock, ribbon, eyelets, stamps, ink, etc. All cardstock will need to be pre-cut to the size needed for your card. This not only saves you money, but the rest of us time.   Quality, thick cardstock is a MUST!  No envelopes need be supplied unless your card is a non-standard size.  Standard card size is 5½” x 4¼”.

• Put all pieces needed to assemble your card into separate sandwich bags or “kits”. Include written/printed instructions for your card in each bag. You will not be demonstrating these, so please make sure your instructions are very, very clear so that even beginners can easily complete your card.

• Put your original card, your “kits”, stamps, ink and anything else that is needed but not in the basic supply kit in a Shoebox or basket. On the outside please put your name so we know who made which project. You may want to cut a few extras in case boo-boos occur. Please label all your supplies.

• Please bring a BASIC SUPPLY KIT to include: Stamp-n-scrub w/stamp cleaner, scissors, adhesive, pop dots or foam dots, bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, and a black journaling marker and whatever else you can’t stamp without (markers?). Have some sort of carry case for these items as you’ll be moving to each station.

• Please also bring something to carry your completed cards in that will keep them safe. Bring your camera if you want to take pictures of the card samples in case you don’t have time to complete all the projects.

• YOU NEED TO BRING ENOUGH SUPPLIES FOR EVERY PERSON THAT ATTENDS THE EVENT TO MAKE YOUR CARD.   This event will most likely fill fast so register early, maximum of 25 participants.

YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER   -  Cost: $15.00 per person

Date of Event – Saturday, August 21, 2010  9:00 am – 4:00 pm, lunch and door prizes are included

Scrapbook Page Swap & Crop

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Welcome to All About Pictures first Scrapbook Page Swap & Crop!! Have you ever been in a scrapbook page swap?  Have you ever heard of a scrapbook page swap?  Either way, come join us & make a great page & get great pages in return!

How it works:

You need to design a 12x12 2-page layout and provide all the materials to repeat it.

Step #1- make the layout for yourself

Step #2 cut the paper, gather embellishments & anything else to repeat your layout.

Step #3:  put smaller pieces in small plastic bag.  “Kit up” everything & put in larger plastic bag.

Step #4:  include a color picture of your finished layout so all participants know how the page should go together.  Also include your name & email on the back of picture.

Step #5:  Be proud of your page!  Put into the swap what you want to get out of the swap.
You will make enough “kits” for everyone in the swap (we’ll know how many participants by August 18th) & then we meet to swap out pages & crop!  At the crop you can put your pages together & ask questions if needed!

We’ll have two groups: Group A & Group B

A few rules for Group A:

·         Must be a 12x12 two page layout

·         Must use cardstock or high quality pattern paper as your base.  (Looking for poundage or thickness of paper)

·         Must have a title or the cardstock provided to make the title.  Cricut will be available at crop to cut titles if needed.

·         Embellishments required.  Examples of embellishments:

o    Brads, ribbon, flowers, cut outs using the cricut or other machines, journaling or word blocks (sold by some vendors).

·         If stamping or inking is included- please have that completed.

·         Cost should be approx $5+ per layout.

·         Pages should have “steps” & take some time to complete.

A few rules for Group B:

·         Must be a 12x12 two page layout

·         Must use cardstock or high quality pattern paper as your base.  (Looking for poundage or thickness of paper)

History

All About Picturesis a locally owned and operated by Richard Kells-Pitlik and his sister Diane Pitlik.  After much discussion of what type of business they wanted to open in Cedar Rapids, Custom Picture Framing and Scrapbooking was decided upon. After scouting out several locations and then remodeling we opened our doors February 1,2008.  With what we admit was scant inventory and a definite lack of knowledge as far as the cash register was concerned, we continue to grow and add inventory weekly. We appreciate the warm reception we have received and hope to continue to be your first choice in scrapbooking and picture framing needs.

A special Thanks to our family and friends for their help!!
